The Boys!

Dylan and Max. December 20, 2009.
Sacramento, CA.

Here is a photo I took just a few days ago, at Mommy's request (and with her camera!), as a Christmas present for our parents and her grandmother. I like the spontaneity, and Dylan's smile is priceless. The brothers really like each other.

The Magical Onesie!

Back in May of 2008, one of Dylan's older brothers, Jack, found a special onesie for him. A photo of Dylan wearing the brand new garment is below...

Today, rummaging through his dresser looking for some warm clothes for our trip to the park, I found the same onesie. Now, he has worn this onesie many many times, but it had been awhile since he last put it on. "Would it still fit...?" I wondered. "Naw..." but I had Dylan try it on. And, lo and behold, it fits! It's a bit faded now after many washes, but it still fits and he wore it (and a few other layers) to the park today. And note: now Dylan has a neck!

It truly is a magical, miraculous, amazing onesie!

Mike Visits Max, Dylan and the Others!

Uncle Mike, Max, Mommy, Poppy and Dylan
December 19, 2009. Sacramento, CA.

Uncle Mikey, from Mexico, is here for the holidays. Well, he's leaving soon to return to Old MexĂco, but when he arrived a couple weeks ago, he made our abode one of his first stops. He asked me to post the photo of his visit and I said I would, asap! So you know how that goes, but here it is, Mike! We've enjoyed having you around and will miss you when you leave.

Merry Christmas to All!

Max, Mommy, Dylan, Poppy.
Sacramento, CA.
12.12.09

We wish all of you a very Merry Christmas and all the Best for a Happy, Healthy, and Prosperous New Year!

More Halloween Madness!

Here are some photos from Halloween, '09! The first three were taken by Mommy just before the entourage left for their crazy run through the neighborhood, pounding on doors, charming the unsuspecting victims with cuteness and coyness, and then demanding payment (i.e., candy)!

A splendid time was had by all.

Lady Bug and 1st Check-up!

Here's Max in his official Halloween portrait, done up in the height of Lady Bug fashion! (More Halloween photos and news to follow soon!)

Today, Max had his first well-baby checkup, and everything looks great. He has put on nearly two pounds (way to go, Mommy!), and a bit of height as well. No more concerns about jaundice, and his physical shows everything is going just the way it is supposed to go. No shots or blood work today, so that saved Mommy and Poppy some anguish, but the next visit will more than make up for today's lack of poking and prodding.

Mommy continues to recover. She had herself checked out today as well, and the incision is healed and all other signs point towards her getting more and more of her old life back again! Given what happened to her, I am totally amazed she can function at all, and she does so much more than that!

For now, all is well, all is smooth and we are all very happy.

I also want to thank Mommy's family, particularly Suzy, Jim and Jake for opening up their home and their hearts to Dylan. They took such great care of him while Mommy, Max and I were in the hospital for several days after the birth. We didn't have to worry at all about how he was doing or if he was safe or cared for. And also big thanks to Mommy's mom, Pat, and dad, Lou, for tons of continued support. And thank you to all of you who have sent notes, called, stopped by to visit at the hospital or at our home, and otherwise expressed your interest and concern for all of us. Thank you all!

Doctor Dylan Makes a House Call!

After much soul searching and browsing the costume aisles at Target and looking on line, we finally made a decision about Dylan's Halloween costume: surgical scrubs. We thought it would be oh-so-cute if Dylan showed up at the hospital to visit his newly born baby brother on Halloween all dressed up in his scrubs. But then Max went and ruined that plan by being born 2 weeks early!

Oh, well... Just a few days before Max showed up, Jennifer made an appointment with Dr. Dylan, OB/GYN, for her next-to-last prenatal appointment. Here are some photos of that visit.

He is RELEASED!!

Max has been in the Special Care Nursery for the last couple of days. He had an elevated bilirubin count (i.e., he was jaundiced), and had to go to to the SCN (sort of a midlevel nursery not as intense as an NICU) for the 'treatment.' He had to spend virtually every minute of the day under some special UV lights to break down the dead red blood cells in his body so they could be excreted out.

Anyway, today they did his blood work in the lab, and he was down well below their threshold and is now back in his mom's room. So both baby and Mom are happy!

And so is Poppy!

Max Joseph Arrives!

Nearly two weeks ahead of schedule (uh, how about a little notice next time, eh?), and with the same drama that his big brother, Dylan, had, our newest family member arrives! Born on Thursday, October 15, 2009, at 9:30 in the PM, Max was all of 7 lbs, 13 oz, and 21.5" in length. Eyes of dark blue and dark hair, he is beloved by all who lay eyes on him.

This posting is quick, due to Mom and Baby both still in hospital, and more - much more - will follow. But the moment we've all been waiting for has arrived.

Dylan Channels Karnac!

And finally the last video of The Boy opening his parents' gifts to him on 9.12.09. He has always been fascinated by my weekly chore - mowing the lawn. No doubt it's because it involves noise, wheels, and walking. I don't think he'll enjoy it once it's his chore to do! Anyway, for now he loves it, and so getting him a toy mower was a no-brainer.

Oh, and the title (for you young ones!) refers to the old Johnny Carson skit where he played a fortune teller, Karnac, who was able to tell what was inside an envelope before he opened it. You'll see that Dylan was able to identify this gift before he opened it! Amazing kid!

Dylan Passes the Math Part of the CAHSEE!

Dylan got a set of colorful blocks - actually, TWO sets of the very same blocks, that's how wonderful they are! (Thank you Aunt Suzy, Uncle Jim and Jake!) He already knows his colors pretty well, and a number of shapes as well (oval, square, rectangle, triangle, circle, heart and star). So this set of blocks will help him with strengthening those skills - plus equally important, he'll have fun!

Dylan Sings Happy Birthday to You!

Title says it all...

Dylan Solves a Puzzle!

Here's a little video Jennifer shot on The Boy's birthday. He got a few presents from Mommy and Poppy, one of them the truck (see the post just below this one), a train puzzle, a box of blocks, a lawn mower and what I like to call his Flinstone car - a little Fisher Price push car that he just loves!

This video is him working on his train puzzle.

More to come!

Dylan's Delight!

There's more to his actual birthday (celebrated on the 12th with Mommy, Poppy and of course The Birthday Boy himself!) than just this, but this sequence is one of the most pure expressions of joy and excitement I have ever witnessed! I just wanted to share this with you. Will post more later...

Dylan Turns 2!

... And it took three days (and three parties!) for him to properly celebrate the big event. The first party was on Friday at his day care, where his day care provider throws a big party for the kids on their birthday. We were not able to be there, it being a work day, but Mommy gave the day care provider her camera and asked her to document the party. So, here are the photos from that party!
